I Love My Flag

I love my flag, my country's flag
The red and white and blue.
It has broad stripes and fifty stars,
And stands for freedom, too.

Create your own flags

Have children pick 3 colors for their flag. They must have a reason for the colors they choose; such as, choose yellow for happiness, or pink for love.

Add symbols to your flag. Choose 2 to 3 symbols for your flag. For example, shamrocks, because your family came from Ireland.

Print My Flag worksheet.

Flag Day Festival (June 14th)
Have the children make a festive Flag Day tablecloth out of a long sheet of white butcher paper. Have each child bring in a food from home that is either red, white, or blue.

Post a sign up sheet for the parents to sign up to bring in a food item. You may want to list the food items for the parents to sign up to bring. Brainstorm a list with the children, putting the items into the correct color categories.

Make a 3-dimensional American flag

Cut paper strips from red, white, and blue construction paper. Have the children make paper chains.

red group--4 chains of 25 loops and 3 chains of 50 loops;
white group--3 chains of 25 loops and 3 chains of 50 loops;
blue group--7 chains of 25 loops.

Staple the completed chains on a bulletin board so that it looks like the American Flag.
