"One day this child shall hold the very heart of our family in the palm of her hand," predicts Granny on the day Darcy Heart O'Hara is born in a cottage on Derry Lane, in the town of Pobble O'Keefe, in County Kerry, Ireland.
Darcy grows up in an Irish village in 1845. She grows up to to be a noticer, delighting in the small beauties all around her.
But in 1845, the potato famine drives the family to America. How will Darcy ever find a way to to bring the small beauties of home across the sea to America? A story of emigration and hope vividly illustrated by the oil paintings of Adam Rex.
This collection of five complete, illustrated Dr.
Seuss classics is a 'hatful', but you'd have to have a Cat-in-the-Hat-sized
chapeau to contain all the treasures in this hefty book.
The white shape silhouetted against a blue background changes on
every page. Is it a rabbit, a bird, or just split milk? Children are
kept guessing until the surprise ending--and will be encouraged to
improvise similar games of their own. Blue and white pictures. Age 4
to 6.
Paint-Blot Clouds
Fold a sheet of blue construction paper, reopen, and lay flat. Place
white tempera paint into squeeze bottles. Add liquid detergent if the
paint is very runny.
Squeeze a few dots of paint on one side of the fold. Have children
close the paper on the fold and gently press. Open the paper to view
your paint-blot cloud.
