D*Alphabet Letter D Patterns

Use the patterns on the following pages to make stick puppets, learning

games, alphabet books and other teaching aids. A new window will open. Before printing under File in Page Setup set margins to zero.

*Spring Alphabet Letter Color Page-Dd is for dandelions.
*Summer Alphabet Letter Color Page-Dd is for daisy.
*Fall Alphabet Letter Color Page-Dd is for dew.
*Winter Alphabet Letter Color Page-Dd is for drinking hot chocolate

Drip Drop D

Cut out a large letter D rom bullitin board paper. Thin differet colors of tempera paint with water and place in shallow bowls. In small groups have children use eyedroppers to suck up paint and make drops on the large D. Watch how the colors spread and mix together. Hang up in the room when dry.

Daisies

Have the children cut out a circle and glue it to the center of a paper plate. Show them how to cut petals in a variety of colors and glue them around the circle to form a daises. Have the children add stems and leaves.

Dot D's

Cut large letter D's from construction paper. Let the children decorate their letter D by gluing on dots the children have punched from construction paper with hole punchers or use colored self-stick dots.

*Group Time

Doggie, Doggie Whose Got Your Bone? (Game)

Use a plastic or paper bone. Have one child sit in a chair at the front of the room with his/her back toward everyone. Place the bone under the chair.

The other children have to be very quiet as you select someone to ease up and get the bone and quietly return to their place. As soon as this person is in their spot, the children chant:

"Doggie, doggie whose got your bone?"

The "doggie" then gets to guess who has the bone. The child has 3 guesses.

Eggshell E's
Need: eggshells and cotton swaps

Cut large letter E shapes out of heavy paper. Let children glue crushed eggshell pieces on their letter shapes, using cotton swabs as applicators.

Note: If eggshells are not available, let children attach egg stickers to their E shapes. Or have them glue on small egg shapes cut out of wallpaper or wrapping paper.

E's in the Envelope
Need: envelopes and index cards

Print an upper-case E on the front of envelopes. Cut index cards in half. Print upper-case E's on most of the cards and print other letters on the rest. Mix up the cards and place them in a pile. Let the children sort through the cards and place those that are marked with E inside the envelope.

*Group Time

Elbow E's

Use flashcard ABC's. Have the children sit in front of you. Then hold up the cards, one at a time, and have the children whenever they see the letter E bend their arms and move their elbows up and down.

Body E's

Have children (4 children needed) form E's on the floor with their bodies.

*Snack Time

Egg Snacks

Plan to serve eggs in a variety of ways throughout your E unit. For example, try scrambling , frying, poaching, and boiling eggs. Serve hard-boiled eggs plain or sliced. Or let the children help use them to make egg salad or deviled eggs

F Is For Flower

Cut out a large number of the letter F
from different colors of construction paper.
Cut out a steam.

Glue the steam onto construction paper (length wise).
Draw a small dot above the steam (will be the center of the flower)
Glue the letter Fs in a circle around the dot with the bottom of
the letter touching the dot.

Feather F's

Cut large letter F shapes out of heavy paper. Set out brushes, glue and small feathers. Let the children brush glue on their letter shapes and arrange the feathers on top of the glue.

*Learning Centers

Feathers Up Close

Place feathers and magnifiers on the science table. Invite children to observe the feathers through the magnifiers. How is a feather constructed? What colors are in a feather?
Children can draw and color a picture of their favorite feather.

*Group Time

Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum

Alphabet flashcards. Have the children sit in front of you. Begin by saying, "Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum. When you see the letter F, wave your fingers for fun." Then show the children the cards, one at a time, and have them wave their fingers whenever they see the letter F.

Game

Feather Race

Help children form teams of three or four. Provide a spoon and a feather for each team and mark starting and target lines. Have the first child carry the feather on the spoon to the target line and then back to the next child on the team. If the feather falls off the spoon, the racer must pick it up and go back to the starting line and try again.
